PLAR and transfer-credit assessment support

Transparent, repeatable approaches for assessing prior learning and external coursework, designed to improve consistency and documentation while keeping academic judgement and authority with your institution.

Your institution decides. We support the process.

Credit and recognition decisions belong to the people and bodies your policies assign them to. QACanada’s role is to make the basis for those decisions clearer, more consistent and better documented, and to reduce the manual effort involved.

What we do not do: grant credit, override faculty or committee judgement, or apply criteria your institution has not approved.

Our approach

Each engagement is shaped to your policies and volumes. A typical sequence:

  1. Understand the current process

How requests arrive, who assesses them, which criteria and evidence are used, how decisions are recorded and where time is spent.

  2. Define criteria and evidence standards

Make explicit what counts as sufficient evidence for each outcome, and how partial matches are handled.

  3. Build structured tools

Assessment templates, rubrics, evidence guides for applicants and decision-record formats.

  4. Pilot and calibrate

Apply the approach to a sample, compare reviewer judgements and refine definitions where they diverge.

  5. Document and hand over

Procedures, examples and guidance so the approach can be applied consistently by your staff.

What a structured approach is designed to improve

Consistency

Similar requests assessed against the same written criteria, regardless of who reviews them.

Documentation

A clear record of evidence, rationale and decision for every file.

Efficiency

Less re-reading and re-deciding, and a reusable record of past comparisons.

Defensibility

Decisions that can be explained to learners, appeals committees and reviewers.

Results depend on your context, volumes and existing practice; we agree measures of success with you during scoping rather than promising specific savings.
